Academics
Curriculum:
The modus operandi of Eastern University is typically that of a North American university in the fields of Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology and Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and the UK model in the fields of Law and English. An academic program is pursued through a framework of curriculum that includes splitting up of an academic year into three semesters: the Fall, the Spring and the Summer. In each semester a student is required to undertake a given number of courses, each carrying a certain number of credit hours. Then the performance in each course is measured in Alphabetical Grades. The course requirements include class room teaching, case analysis, presentation, assignments, quizzes, class tests, mid-term and final exams, field work, internship, etc. as applicable in a given course.
Medium of Instruction:
English alone is the medium of instruction which is indispensable to follow the curriculum and the prescribed texts. For raising proficiency in English, at present a student has to undertake intensive three-module based courses in the first two semesters and an advanced English course in the third semester.
Teaching Philosophy and Methods:
Eastern University strives to become a study laboratory for those young learners who seek to excel in their chosen fields. It promises to ensure that every student gets more than what he has paid for. It aims at instilling in student a perennial hunger for acquiring more and more of in-depth knowledge. For achieving this objective a perfect blend of formal and informal approach to learning process is adopted. Carefully prepared classroom lectures are almost always followed by practical exercises aimed at enhancing problem solving techniques, presentation skill and ways of assuming leadership. It searches out the latent faculties in each student and then tries to bring out the best from him/her.
The Eastern University's objective is to raise a skillful, conscientious and committed young work force who will be able to assume leadership in whatever situation they are put in the realm outside. As such, it lays more emphasis on practical exercises and assignments, group discussions, debates, mock role-plays, study tours, etc. to supplement class room lectures. A personalized attention is given to every student to raise him/her to the set standard. The admission of students therefore has to be highly selective.
